This outlines the process and fees for international candidates coming to the U.S. If you are a U.S. citizen interested in going abroad, go here.
WFE accepts applications only from international intern and trainee candidates who are working with an established sponsorship partner in their county or have already received an offer from a U.S. farm host.
Don’t have a partner? Contact WFE to learn about sponsors in your area.
The steps from application to visa and travel may take two weeks to six months and possibly longer. Placements are very competitive, so get started now!
Please be as detailed as possible when completing the application.
Submit an application with relevant documents: a copy of your passport ID page, any previous J-1 visas, CV/resume, and diploma (if a recent graduate), and the Medical Statement form. An email of receipt will be sent.*
If approved, the application is sent to relevant hosts, or if a placement is already confirmed, WFE will contact the host to start the process.
The host and WFE will create a DS-7002 Placement Plan for all parties to agree to and sign. Wine candidates pay their first program fee installment.
WFE will send candidates the necessary J-1 visa application forms.
The candidate will complete the visa process in their country. See full J-1 visa process here.
If the visa is approved, the candidate contacts WFE to make travel arrangements.
*Review and approval times vary significantly, from two weeks to six months or more. Placement offers aren’t guaranteed. If WFE does not accept your application, you will be notified.
